- C'est au XIXe siècle que fut construit le premier pont Assat, surplombant l'ancien gué, sur le Gave de Pau. Elle a connu trois vies depuis sa création, entre 1849 et 1852 selon les plans de l'ingénieur Marc Seguin. A cette époque, les entrées du pont étaient fermées par des grilles en fer forgé. Le promoteur avait même installé un poste de péage ! Acheté en 1870 par l'administration, il fut fermé pour cause de péril, puis reconstruit en 1888 et ce n'est qu'en 1938 qu'il prit son véritable essor. Depuis cette date, l'architecture de cet ouvrage d'art n'a pas changé, bien qu'une importante restauration ait été effectuée en 2005.
